Accommodation near the RAI conference centre in Zuidas

A solid hospitality infrastructure has been developed around the RAI conference centre and the World Trade Centre, but it’s the NH Musica that has particularly caught our attention with its slick, modern rooms and eighteen flexible meeting rooms. In the same area, the Htel Serviced Apartments come highly recommended by business people on the move. Each spacious, refined unit easily competes with the quality and comfort of a 5-star suite whilst offering the independence and convenience of kitchen facilities and an office area. Meeting rooms accommodating up to fifty people can be reserved, and an events coordination service is also proposed. For those that want to keep a close eye on expenses, the Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam – South (from €80) and the Crowne Plaza Amsterdam – South (from €83) are two pleasant, reliable addresses in close proximity to the conference halls.

A flying visit: hotels in and around the airport

Tight schedules often require travellers to stay around the airport, conducting business from their hotel. Without a doubt one of the most luxurious hotels at the airport, the Sheraton Amsterdam Airport offers chic rooms and top-of-the-range facilities (including thirty meeting rooms) as well as a practical location, with direct access to the terminals. Two other thoroughly modern hotels located within the airport are the citizenM Amsterdam Airport (from €75) and the Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schipol (from €95), both of which are orientated towards a business clientele with stylish, contemporary interiors and a full range of adapted services. Smaller, calmer and less flashy, the more classic style of the Mercure Hotel Amsterdam Airport is a good solution for limited budgets and events of a more low-key character.

Central addresses near the station

The Ibis Amsterdam Centre is a popular choice for solo travellers who require clean, practical accommodation. Located right next to the station’s main entrance (some rooms even look out over the tracks), the hotel is a handy option for those who plan on travelling to other cities. The décor is modern but functionality takes priority over style. The Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre is a modern 4-star hotel located ten minutes’ away from the station (free shuttle service provided). The building dominates a section of the dockland waterfront, from where guests are treated to unobstructed views across city centre and the IJ. It’s undoubtedly a prime spot from which to admire the handsome ships from all over the world that arrive in the port during the Sail Amsterdam nautical event (next scheduled for August 2015). As for business facilities, twelve flexible meeting rooms are available for hire and the hotel also works in partnership with the adjoining Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, which can host conferences for up to 3,000 delegates.

Practical and functional don’t necessarily have to mean plain and impersonal, as demonstrated at the art'otel Amsterdam  (from €195): a showcase of chic contemporary design featuring original artwork and creative lighting that’s within a stone’s throw of the station. In a more classic category, the A-Train (from €54) is a budget hotel just opposite the station that offers simple accommodation and an original railway-themed bar downstairs.
