Both the Lealtad Plaza and the Savoy Alfonso XII are located in the historic streets to the west of the park, within walking distance from the arts triangle. Travellers who have stayed at the 4-star Petit Palace Lealtad Plaza emphasise that its location opposite the park, its modern, comfortable rooms, its copious breakfast and attentive personnel are well worth the modest price tag, with prices starting at £75. In the same category, the Petit Palace Savoy Alfonso XII 55 (from £70) has also earned glowing reviews from guests for its location, cleanliness, comfort and friendly service. To the east of the park, a little further from the centre but located right next to a metro station, the 4-star Ayre Gran Hotel Colón has been complemented by guests for its contemporary décor, its spacious rooms and the pleasant gardens, making it good value for money with rates from £40. The only negative feedback from guests regards the parking, which drivers judged quite pricey at around €20 per day. Given its location south of Parque del Retiro in close proximity to the major station of Atocha, the unbeatable value for money offered by the Agumar (from £37) has been acknowledged by travellers, even if the décor and facilities can appear somewhat dated and tired for a 4-star hotel.
Serviced apartments: the practical option
According to those that have stayed there, the advantage of the Apartamentos Adelfas (from £40) is the use of a fully equipped, private kitchen. The studios, one- and two-bedroomed flats, and penthouse suite are modern and comfortable, provide free wifi access, and are located in a calm area within close proximity to several metro stops and the historic centre. Offering similarly comprehensive facilities, the Apartamentos Museo del Prado (from £80) and the Apartamentos Los Jeronimos (from £95) are located much closer to the museums and centre, with the Apartamentos Museo del Prado featuring a more design-orientated décor and the Apartamentos Los Jeronimos a more homely feeling. Both are appreciated for their modernity and brightness. Situated 400 metres east of the park on a residential street, the duplex Apartamentos MLR Loft Retiro (from £83), which sleeps up to 5 people, has pleased many guests with its fun décor and modern design combined with its proximity to several shops and restaurants. In another style, the apartment Atico Retiro (from £100) has been singled out for its warm, homely décor and its wonderful terrace overlooking the tree tops of Parque del Retiro.
A Friendly Host
As well as the fresh, bright rooms offered at the 8Rooms Madrid guesthouse (from £40), located just south of the park and 500 metres from Atocha station on the main thoroughfare of Paseo Reina Cristin, guests have been impressed by the friendliness of the owners and the quality of the accommodation given the attractive price.
